How to Switch from Vendor Central to Seller Central Without Losing Sales

Moving from Amazon 1P to 3P gives you control of your price. How to plan the switch, protect your rankings and reviews, and avoid a gap in sales.

Most brands that leave Vendor Central do it for the same reason: they’re tired of Amazon setting their price. Others want out of chargebacks, unpredictable purchase orders, or a channel they can’t see into. If you’re weighing the move first, start with Seller Central vs. Vendor Central.

The switch is very doable. Done carelessly, it creates a gap where nobody is selling your product, or where strangers win the sale while you’re setting up.

Step 1: Set up and protect the brand first

  • Open a Seller Central account in your company’s name, before you change anything with Vendor Central.
  • Confirm Brand Registry is in place under an account you control. See what Brand Registry actually does.
  • Check who else is selling your products today. When Amazon stops selling, other sellers often move in. See who is selling your product on Amazon.

Step 2: Decide which products move, and when

You don’t have to move everything at once. Many brands move a group of products first, learn, then move the rest. Start with products where price control matters most or where Vendor Central margin is weakest.

Step 3: Plan inventory so there’s no gap

This is where most transitions go wrong. Amazon will usually sell through the inventory it already bought. If your Seller Central inventory isn’t live before Amazon runs out, you lose sales and ranking. Plan FBA shipments so your stock arrives as Amazon’s runs down. See seasonal inventory planning.

Step 4: Keep the listings intact

Your product pages, reviews and ranking history generally stay with the product listing, not with the seller. Sell on the same listings rather than creating new ones, and review the content once you have control. Vendor-supplied data can conflict with what you submit. See someone changed my Amazon listing.

Step 5: Set your price and protect it

Now that you control the price, set it where it holds across every channel. Put a unilateral MAP policy in place and watch for sellers undercutting it. See how to write an Amazon MAP policy.

Step 6: Rebuild advertising

Vendor and seller advertising accounts are separate. Plan your Seller Central campaigns before the switch so visibility doesn’t drop while Amazon’s own buying winds down. See how much to spend on Amazon ads.

Step 7: Wind down Vendor Central cleanly

Settle open purchase orders, returns and deductions. Check your vendor agreement for notice terms and any programs that need to be closed out.

What to expect

Expect some bumpiness for a few weeks while Amazon’s inventory clears and yours takes over. Brands that plan inventory and listings in advance usually see a short dip, then better margin and full price control.

Frequently asked questions

Will I lose my reviews if I leave Vendor Central?

Reviews generally stay with the product listing. Sell on the existing listings rather than creating new ones.

How long does the switch take?

Plan for several weeks to a few months, depending on how much inventory Amazon holds and how many products you move.

Can I switch some products and keep others on Vendor Central?

Yes. A phased move is common and lowers the risk.

What happens to Amazon’s leftover inventory?

Amazon usually sells through what it has bought. Plan your own stock to take over as it runs out.
